About
VCCN (Vaccine) Detroit.
A brand focused on rebuilding Detroit through developing a positive, change-driven, and culturally rich image of the city.
Mission
Create a safer and more visually stimulating area for community members to come together.
Description
According to city officials, business owners, and citizens alike, the blight of Detroit is the main cause of the city’s many problems. Violence, poverty, and abandonment thrive in blighted areas, which are also home to a large amount of Detroit’s at-risk youth.
In order to counteract this problem, we propose to help young, Detroiters realize their creative potential by helping them build a positive, change-driven, and culturally rich image of their city - defying the now outdated stigmas of blight, gentrification, and disenfranchisement. We hope to capture this through the lens of photography and public art.
ovember 14th, 2014- Forty volunteers ranging from high school students, university students and faculty/ community members came out to 12808 Burt St in Brightmoor, Detroit to board up and wheat paste the abandoned home. The aftermath resulted in the school taking on the deed of the home to incorporate into their after school and art class curriculum to provide students with a safe and engaging project to call their own.
